Queertango.dk has met the two popular queer tango stars, Augusto Balizano and Mariana Docampo, to talk about how they understand queer tango, its background and future.
Augusto Balizano and Mariana Docampo are both queer tango teachers and organizers of queer tango festival in Buenos Aires. In 2011 Copenhagen was appointed as city of honor. The two teachers have great influence on queer tango community internationally and are considered pioneers in the field.
Augusto Balizano is co-organizer of La Marshall, who was the first queer milonga in Buenos Aires. It is held every Friday and attracts many visitors. Here he talks about his views on queer tango. The interview is in English and lasts 9:46 minutes.
"Now I got used to the idea of having a name like 'queer tango'. When we started to work with this, and we started to talk about this with Mariana, we always had some discussions about it..." says Augusto.
