Milongas

Besides the many workshops with dance lessons, Copenhagen Queer Tango Festival 2011 offers a series of milongas. Milongas are dance salons where people meet and dance Argentine tango. Milongas are for everyone, both beginners and experienced dancers. The Festival's milongas will be held in unique settings in different places in the city. La Queer Boca – 1st September
La Boca is a beloved and popular tango salon in Christianshavn; each Thursday it attracts a mature audience with a taste for tango classics. For years, tango pioneer Gunner Svendsen has been the arranger of these evocative dance nights, also known as 'a small piece of Buenos Aires in Copenhagen'.

The Festival's opening Milonga on Thursday, 1st September, will be held in collaboration with the salon, and the event renamed 'La Queer Boca'. We look forward to a wonderful mix of queer tango dancers from home and abroad as well as the salon's usual guests for an unusual queer night on the dance floor.

Before La Queer Boca begins at 8pm, it is possible for new beginners to participate in an introduction lesson at 7pm-8pm, at a special price: 50 kroner (7 Euros). Read more about registration here.

Piso Queer Clásico – 2nd September
Piso Clásico in Vesterbro is called the city's nicest milonga. Every second Friday a wonderful atmosphere is created with room for everyone on the dance floor, regardless of level and dance style. Piso Clásico attracts an open-minded and younger audience, and their DJ plays classic and danceable tango, and always ensures a good mood and flow on the floor.

The venue is hosted by charming voluntary tango enthusiasts, who offer classic tangos and Classic beer at the bar. In honour of the occasion it will be renamed 'Piso Queer Clásico', and we really look forward to dancing queer tango there with the festival participants and the milonga's faithful regulars.

Piso Queer Clásico opens its doors at 9:30pm.

Gala milonga with show, Vanløse Kulturstation – 3rd September
Among the festival's absolute highlights is the Gala Milonga with show on Saturday, 3rd September, at Vanløse Kulturstation. This queer tango milonga is created especially for the occasion, and it is therefore a unique event you should not miss!

To the tune of rhythmic and romantic music, the spacious dance floor will be solely for festival participants and queer tango enthusiasts. The evening will include a queer tango show with international tango stars and surprises. We can hardly wait to take you in our arms and welcome you to this evening!

The dance floor in Vanløse is ready from 9:00pm.

Brunch milonga and Matinee milonga, Vanløse Kulturstation – 4th September
After the night's many tango steps, the festival offers a brunch milonga in Vanløse Kulturstation, where over morning coffee and a bite to eat you can prepare yourself for the festival's final embrace. From 11am and onwards you can once again put your feet on the dance floor in Vanløse. If you have signed up for a workshop or two on the same day, you can go to them, and then return to the milonga and continue dancing, when Sunday's last event continues and becomes Matinee milonga.

These Sunday milongas are especially created for the occasion, and will therefore mainly consist of festival participants and queer tango enthusiasts. We look forward to saying good morning, good afternoon and see you again later on.

The brunch milonga begins at 11:00am.
